안녕하십니까. 미주 북향민협회 회장 전 혜정입니다.
저희들은 북한의 독재체제에서 태어나 사선을 넘어 자유의 땅 미국 LA에 정착한 100여명의 북향민들로 서로의 뜻을 모아 “미주 북향민협회“ 라는 단체를 만들었습니다.
미주 북향민협회는 미국에 정착한 북향민들에 대한 생활 안전지원을 최우선으로 하며 이들이 미국사회의 안정적인 정착과 자유롭고 행복한 삶의 향유를 통하여 얻은 자유민주주의 제도의 우월성을 북한사회에 알리는 활동을 비롯하여 미국내 국민들과 여러 동포들과의 다양한 문화행사와 교류를 도모하며 친목과 화합을 확산시켜 향후 미국과 여러 동포사회의 긴밀한 유대관계 조성에 기여함을 목적으로 출발하였습니다.
새로운 환경인 미국사회서의 정착은 생활속에서 오는 다양한 환경의 이질감으로 인하여 탈북민들 에게 결코 쉬운 일은 아닙니다. 새로운 언어로 인한 소통의 장벽과 생활의 여러가지 경제적인 어려움에서 오는 정서적인 불안감은 미국사회에 대한 삶의 행복지수를 떨어뜨리는 요인으로 작용하고 있으며 또한 지금 이 시각도 굶주림과 고통속에 살아가고 있는 북한땅에 두고 온 혈육들에 대한 그리움과 미안함 그리고 정착이 안정되지 못한 자신들의 처지로 인하여 제대로 된 경제적 도움을 줄 수 없는 마음의 상처들로 인하여
탈북민들은 항상 마음 한구석에 아픔의 응어리를 안고 살아가고 있습니다.
북향민들의 이러한 아픔과 고통을 줄이고 미국사회에 잘 정착하여 가슴 펴고 살아가게 하는것이 북향민협회가 해야 할 사명이고 또한 이것이 북한의 독재정권에게 사람을 위한 진정한 사회가 바로 자유 민주주의 제도라는 것 을 보여 주는 것 이라고 생각합니다.
북향민들에 대한 자그마한 관심과 사랑이 곧 저희들에게 있어서 큰 힘이 되는것 이며 삶의 원동력이 됩니다.
이제 갓 태어난 북향민협회는 지금은 많이 힘들고 어렵지만 앞으로
여러분의 관심과 사랑의 격려속에 더 좋은 모습으로 성장 할것이며 미국과 여러 동포사회 발전의 주춧돌이 되겠습니다.

How do you do. This is Hye Jung, the former president of the Association of Northerners of the Americas.
We were about 100 North Koreans who were born in the dictatorship of North Korea and crossed the line and settled in Los Angeles, the land of freedom, and formed an organization called the “Association of North Koreans of the Americas.”
The Association of North Koreans in the United States of America was established with the aim of contributing to the creation of close ties between the United States and various Korean communities in the future by promoting various cultural events and exchanges between the people of the United States and various compatriots, including activities to inform North Korean society of the superiority of the liberal democratic system that they have gained through stable settlement in American society and the enjoyment of a free and happy life.
Settlement in a new environment in the U.S. is not an easy task for North Korean defectors due to the differences in various environments that come from their daily lives. Communication barriers due to new languages and various aspects of life
The emotional instability caused by economic hardship is acting as a factor in decreasing the happiness index of American society, and we are also living in hunger and suffering at this time.
Because of their longing and regret for their relatives they left behind in North Korea, and because of their unstable settlement situation, they are unable to provide proper economic help.
North Korean defectors are always living with a lump of pain in the back of their hearts.
I think it is the mission of the North Korean Residents Association to reduce the pain and suffering of the North Koreans and to help them settle down in American society and live with peace of mind, and I think this shows the North Korean dictatorship that a true society for the people is a liberal democratic system.
A little interest and love for the people of the North is a great strength for us and a driving force for our lives.
Now, the newborn Northerners’ Association is very difficult and difficult now, but in the future
With your interest and encouragement, we will grow into a better version of ourselves and become the cornerstone of the development of the U.S. and other Korean communities. I appreciate it.
